Curbside Garbage Collection

Garbage is collected weekly in Arran-Elderslie on Wednesday, Thursday or Fridays.  

Recycling continues to be picked up every other Thursday for Chesley, Paisley and Elderslie and every other Friday for all of Arran and Tara.

Please note the following changes to curbside collection over the holidays:

  • Thursday collection will take place Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31.

  • Friday collection remains unchanged and will occur on Friday, December 26 and Friday, January 2.

Wednesday Garbage Pickup

 Tara - This will include residents north to the Water Tower, East to the County Line Lights, West to the School, South to the Bridge by Roger Thorne Park, and Southwest from Invermay to Sideroad 25. 

 Allenford - This will include residents on Hwy 21 to the round-about.

Place garbage containers at the curbside before 7:00 a.m. on the day of pickup. A maximum of two garbage containers per week are permitted from residential properties.

Permitted garbage bags manufactured for the use of garbage disposal at a minimum size of 66cmX92cm (26"X36") and a maximum size of 89cmX127cm (35"X50"). Garbage bags should be 40 lbs maximum. Garbage containers should be rigid plastic or metal pail with a waterproof lid. Containers should be a maximum height and width of 76cmX46cm (30"X18"), a minimum height and width of 45cmX30cm (18"X12") and not smaller at the top than at the bottom. These containers must also be 40 lbs maximum when filled with garbage.

 Bag Tags

A maximum of two garbage containers per week are permitted from residential properties. Bag tags are required for each additional bag at a cost of $3.50 each. Bag tags can be acquired from the following outlets.

Clothing and Household Items

Canadian Diabetes Clothesline Donation Bins are located throughout Arran-Elderslie. This program takes gently used donations to support diabetes research. You can find a donation bin at the Paisley Community Centre, Elderslie Shop (located beside Municipal Office in Chesley) and Arran Landfill. Clothesline will accept clothing, textiles, small household items, home decor and more at the donation bins. Visit their website to find a complete list of what is accepted. Please place items inside bin. You can also schedule a free household pickup.

Electronic Waste

The Municipality has an agreement in place with Ontario Electronic Stewardship whereby they dispose of the e-waste at no charge. You can drop electronic waste such as computers and printers at the Arran Landfill or in Chesley behind the Elderslie Shop (located beside the Municipal Office). 

Household Hazardous Waste Disposal 

Please note: Household Hazardous Waste is not collected at the Chesley or Arran landfills and must be disposed of through the Bruce County hosted events. 

Household hazardous waste materials include but are not limited to the following items:

Paints & Stains, Propane Tanks, Used Oil, Aerosols, Batteries, Antifreeze, Oil Filters, Solvents
Household Cleaners Fluorescent Lights Fertilizers Fuel, Pharmaceuticals, Fire Extinguishers, Pesticides, Pool Chemicals

The County of Bruce hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events through the year.  

Fall Leaf Collection

The Chesley Landfill will be open EVERY Saturday in October & November for free leaf/compost drop-off. 

The Arran Landfill is open weekly Thursdays 8am-3pm and Saturday 8am-12 noon for free leaf/compost drop-off.

The Municipality provides curbside leaf collection each fall.  
Please call the Municipal Office 519-363-3039 ext. 102 to find out this year's dates and be placed on the list.
Leaves must be in biodegradable paper bags. Materials in plastic bags will not be collected. Bags must be at the curb by 8am.

Christmas Tree Pick-up

The Municipality provides curbside Christmas Tree pick-up on the 2nd Monday in January to our urban centres. Please call the Municipal Office 519-363-3039 at least one week in advance to be placed on the list. Trees must be at the curb by 8am
