Province and Municipality of Arran-Elderslie Announce Major Water Infrastructure Funding

CHESLEY, ON:The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, is excited to announce approval for significant funding under the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health & Safety Water Stream. This grant will enable the complete reconstruction of Elgin Avenue and Matilda Street, strengthening essential water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure to protect the health and safety of local residents.

The Province will contribute up to $1,845,409—covering 73% of the total eligible project costs, with the municipality responsible for the remaining 27%. The estimated total cost for the project is approximately $2,570,000. Engineering costs are included in the 2026 municipal budget, with construction planned for 2027.

“Today’s announcement reaffirms our government’s commitment to rural communities like Arran-Elderslie,” said Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers. “Projects like this not only support the maintenance of critical water infrastructure, they create jobs and keep Ontario moving.”

“We’re really pleased to see this investment move forward. Strengthening our water infrastructure is one of those essential projects that residents don’t always see day‑to‑day, but it makes a big difference for the future of our community.” said Mayor Steve Hammell. “It’s great to be working alongside the Province to keep Arran‑Elderslie moving in the right direction.”

This investment supports Arran-Elderslie’s commitment to safeguarding infrastructure and natural assets, as outlined in the municipality’s Strategic Plan.
