Community Invited to Veterans Commemorative Crosswalk Dedication During Veterans' Week

ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON – The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, in partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 383 Tara, invites residents, veterans, Legion members, and community supporters to attend the dedication ceremony for the new Veterans Commemorative Crosswalk in Tara.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the crosswalk located on Yonge Street at the corner of Brook Street in Tara. Held during Veterans' Week, the event provides an opportunity for the community to come together in recognition of those who have served Canada and those who continue to serve today.

The Veterans Commemorative Crosswalk was created as a lasting tribute to local veterans living in Arran-Elderslie, along with the countless men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Canada. The project serves as a visible reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of military personnel and their families.

Gary Miller, Branch President of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 383, welcomed the partnership and the opportunity to honour those who have served. "This crosswalk stands as a tribute to the veterans in our community and to all those who gave so much in service to our country. We are grateful to see their contributions recognized in a permanent and visible way, and we invite everyone to join us for this special dedication during Veterans' Week."

"The Veterans Commemorative Crosswalk is a meaningful addition to our community and a lasting symbol of remembrance," said Mayor Steve Hammell. "We are proud to partner with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 383 to honour local veterans and ensure their service and sacrifice are recognized not only during Veterans' Week and Remembrance Day, but throughout the entire year."

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the dedication ceremony and join municipal representatives, Legion members, veterans, and community leaders as the new crosswalk is formally dedicated ahead of Remembrance Day.
