Arran-Elderslie Raises Every Child Matters Flag in Recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

ARRAN-ELDERSLIE, ON – The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie has raised an Every Child Matters flag at the Municipal Office in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, observed annually on September 30.

This day serves as an opportunity to honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities. It is also a time for reflection, learning, and continued commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

Mayor Steve Hammell encouraged residents to take time to reflect on the significance of the day and to support reconciliation efforts within their communities.

“National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an important opportunity to remember the children who were lost, honour the Survivors and their families, and acknowledge the lasting impacts of residential schools,” said Mayor Steve Hammell. “Raising an Every Child Matters flag is a visible reminder of our collective responsibility to listen, learn, and work toward meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.”

The Municipality of Arran-Elderslie recognizes that reconciliation is an ongoing journey and remains committed to fostering awareness, respect, and understanding within our communities.
